Successful project seminar

An informative and enjoyable event took place on Saturday 28 October when members of the project team assembled to hear about some of the achievements and results of the project. The venue was the Langstone Hotel on the shores of Chichester Harbour, and the meeting opened with a short walk to demonstrate radiotagging – and even though the tide was well up we found NN+GY, which has tag 790. Then we moved inside and showed Jim Wilson’s DVD of the project, to warm applause.
Pete Potts then presented some results from the huge database, looking at topics such as moult strategy, weight gain, ringing recoveries, colour ring sightings, the local radiotracking and how the dataset could be analysed in future. We then showed a short presentation sent by Raymond Duncan from the Grampian Ringing Group in Scotland about what he does and his results. Finally John Tierney and Ruth Street fronm the Chichester Harbour Conservancy education team showed how we are linking the science with children and the wider public . We even played the migration game! Then it was time for a good meal in the hotel, and a further chance to catch up on news and plan future activity. Everyone commented on the success of the event, and the project as a whole.
