GY+GY

GY+GY at Nutbourne

Date: 23/11/2014
Sadly we suspect that the ultra-regular Greenshank GY+GY will not be with us this winter. This bird was first ringed on 24 August 2002. Its favoured feeding site was the stream outfall at Nutbourne, on the northern shore of Chichester Harbour. It generally tolerated close observation and gave many birdwatchers excellent views. It also delighted many general walkers, and became something of a symbol of the project. Every year the first sighting in the autumn was in August. This year we have been looking and waiting, but it has not been seen feeding at Nutbourne or roosting on Thorney Island. It was the most recorded bird in the database, with over 200 sightings. The last record was on 2 April 2014, roosting on Thorney.
