Thorney to Scotland in under 24 hours!

NR+YY Hayling Oysterbeds

Date: 03/04/2017
Gordon McMullins reported that he had observed the bird on flooded saltmarsh near Findhorn at 15:05 on 31 March. Anne de Potier had been watching it roosting on the western side of Thorney Deeps from 14:40 until 16:00 on 30 March, and estimates that it would have had to wait at least another hour before the tide fell far enough for it to go and feed.

This bird was ringed on 8 September 2013. It has been observed regularly in the local area since then, often frequenting Hayling Oysterbeds, and latterly a flooded field near the north end of the Hayling Billy cycleway. The image was taken by Paul Leach, who saw it at the Oysterbeds on 22 January 2017.
